I am a painter who expresses the feeling of big skies, wide open spaces and the effects of light on water. Being outside is important to me and it is where I find most of my inspiration whether sailing, kayaking or cycling. Often a fleeting moment can be so exciting and the joy I feel at witnessing it is a powerful motivator to paint.
My preferred medium is oils as they suit my way of working. I use the indirect method as this helps me to achieve depth especially when suggesting water. I like
to develop a piece of work through the build up of layers, and I particularly like to use the transparent and opaque qualities of different paints. The drying time needed using this method allow me time to reflect of the progress of the piece. I know when it is resolved when I feel I can walk into the scene.
